Sophia Kokosalaki RTW Spring 2010

After dabbling in urban mystique and exoticism in past seasons, Sophia Kokosalaki returned to her Greek roots with her spring collection. Starting with folkloric costumes, the designer led her modern-day Aphrodite out of the dusty museum and onto the street, with delicate cotton pique dresses and bib-front blouses tucked into bloomers or worn over pristine corseting. She worked effortless organic draping on short, pleated silk dresses — some off-the-shoulder, others with straps that crisscrossed at the back — while an embroidered blackthorn motif graced tunics in white tulle. Hellenistic gold cuffs — the product of a new jewelry collaboration with the Greek jeweler Ilias Lalaounis — rounded out the collection, which had just the right dose of sex appeal for today’s goddesses.

This is a female designer who understands her customer well. Kokosalaki stayed loyal to her Greek heritage with asymmetric draping, folkloric tassels and black thorn embroidery, as well the clever inclusion of gold jewellery, created in collaboration Athenian jewellery maker and goldsmith Lalaounis.

Sophia Kokosalaki's Sophoclean Chic

Kokosalaki's clothes nearly always evoke a certain Greek sensibility with multi-pleated dresses that remind one of fluted columns, belt buckles of classical frieze details and her colors of archeological remains.

"If Sophocles ever came back and threw a post-show cocktail party after a performance of Oedipus Rex, this is how the ladies might appear".

~To Blog Or Not To Blog?

silver ring, Δάφνη, Aegina

Yes dear friends I am alive. And I hope you are all fine. It's been almost a month, a pretty full one, since my last post, and unfortunately I couldn't keep pace with the blog & post- streaming due to my professional obligations. Life is a rat race but I just want my peace. This blog was a project from the beginning, and since it reached a point that it was totally abandoned at God's mercy- Sorry! I didn't have free time to focus on this-these last few weeks I had some serious thoughts about shutting the whole thing down, giving an end to it... but I 'm too optimistic to let this happen. Well, I 'll give it a try now, to make a quick quick post about something nice that I discovered lately, but I'm telling you people: if you don't use it you lose it. So forgive me if you don't find today's post exciting, though I believe it is interesting enough to share it with you.

All this happiness in only a little jar*

ISMENE plus OLIVE OIL

“Meanwhile Circe been seeing that the men
who have been left behind were washed
and anointed with olive oil”
Homer, the Odyssey, book X

One of my latest buys which really made me smile after an exhausting day, is Ismene Plus Olive mild hydrating day face cream, a complete revelation for me: A greek product of high quality, which is filled with vitamins and contains dozens of natural ingredients -plus, NO parabens- that moisturizes, nourishes, reconstructs, and softens the skin while it protects it from the environmental effects. Wow, all this magic in such a little jar!

Well, I tried it on and it's totally satisfying.
!Yey for greek products!

~Twenty8Twelve~ by s.miller

Newburgh str , near Carnaby, London

"In 2006, it was announced that Miller would design a fashion capsule for Pepe Jeans; the project was later expanded to become a complete fashion label. Called Twenty8Twelve, it gets its name from Miller's date of birth and is financially backed by Pepe Jeans. The collection, which Miller designed with her sister Savannah, a professional fashion designer, launched in September 2007".

*Some reviews about her work:

“Rock chic wearable”
Alexandra Shulman, Editor, UK Vogue

‘It was just what we might have expected
– just right for a rock chick:
wearable, a bit romantic and very sexy’.

“The essence of cool, modern London dressing”
Jess Cartner–Morley, Fashion Editor, The Guardian UK

‘Twenty8Twelve has taken the essence of cool,
modern London dressing
– slick tailoring, rock-chick cool & romantic vintage pieces –
and edited it into an accessible collection’.

“Eminently shoppable and unpretentious”
Lisa Armstrong, Fashion Editor, The Times UK

‘Bottom line: this is an appealing synthesis
of their shared penchant for slouchy, hip clothes,
with a nod to strong, Balmain-esque shoulders.
There are cute, cropped trench jackets,
rugged khaki parka-style coats,
minidresses layered over denim leggings
and luxurious knits.
It’s eminently shoppable and unpretentious’.

“Gorgeous leather jackets”
Hilary Alexander, Fashion Editor, Daily Telegraph UK

‘It’s a cool collection, with pieces that young girls
will be desperate to wear
– particularly the gorgeous leather jackets.’

~Vivan los novios~

The process of finding a suitable wedding favor
starts after selecting the wedding dress
in order to suit with the style of the wedding.
The wedding favor is the "trademark"of one's marriage,
the souvenir gift for her/his guests to create impressions,
comments, and maybe stay in their homes for years.

A cousin of mine got married yesterday,
and this is what we brought home from the wedding.
2 wedding favors made of seashells!

summer-theme & sea-elemements,

hands up for simplicity!

~Prince Lanvin~

(pic borrowed by my friend Aitor Fernandez de Jauregi)

A little bit of history:

Lanvin is a clothing company founded by Jeanne Lanvin.

Lanvin made such beautiful clothes for her daughter that they began to attract the attention of a number of wealthy people who requested copies for their own children. Soon, Lanvin was making dresses for their mothers, and some of the most famous names in Europe were included in the clientele of her new boutique on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris. 1909, Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture, which marked her formal status as a couturière. (...) One of the most influential designers of the 1920s and '30s, Jeanne Lanvin's skilful use of intricate trimmings, virtuoso embroideries and beaded decorations in clear, light, floral colours became a Lanvin trademark.
